History of MyBuildingPermit.com

In 1998 the building officials from five Eastside cities Bellevue, Issaquah, Kirkland, Mercer Island, and Redmond began a unified approach to building processes and services.  They recognized that many customers work in more than one city; and the lack of uniformity in the processes, interpretations, and codes led to confusion and increases in the cost of doing business.  The city building officials began working together to share information, agree upon standards, and pool resources - in other words, governments working together to accomplish similar needs.

In an effort to improve building code consistency between the cities, they created easy-to-read information bulletins, adopted common ordinances that regulate construction, provided co-sponsored training seminars, and partnered with businesses in the community.  This vision has evolved into the nation's first multi-jurisdictional on-line permitting portal.  MyBuildingPermit.com now serves the Washington State jurisdictions of: Kenmore, Snohomish County, Woodinville, Bothell, Bellevue, Issaquah, Kirkland, Sammamish, Snoqualmie, Mercer Island and Gig Harbor.
MyBuildingPermit.com Services:

  • Easy on-line access to simple permits.
  • The ability to pull multiple permits from multiple jurisdictions with a single payment within minutes.
  • Up-to-date construction tip sheets and inspection checklists, and interpretations.  These guidelines are used uniformly across member jurisdictions.
  • Access to on-line permit status, including the ability to report on multiple permits across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Permitting and construction contact information for member jurisdictions.
  • Links to construction code information.
  • Industry training opportunities and news.

Future planned services include expansion of on-line permits, a listserv function and on-line inspection scheduling.
