Building Re-roof Packet

You can apply, purchase, and have Building Re-Roof Permits issued via e-mail and printed on your own printer. It takes minutes to apply and permits that do not require plan review are typically returned within three (3) hours.

 

Permit applications requiring plan review may be available on a jurisdiction-by-jurisdiction basis.  Once you complete the pre-application process, the site will inform you whether plan review is required and available for the selected permit and jurisdiction.

Who can apply?

  • The "property owner" (a building or home owner)
  • An owner’s agent
  • A Washington State-licensed contractor registered on this site

When do I need a Permit?

A Single Family Residential Building Re-Roof permit is required for the following:

  • ANY modification to roofing in Bothell, Mill Creek, Snoqualmie
  • Replacement of roofing material that is not like-for-like (ex. shingle to clay)
  • Modifying or replacing sheathing
  • Roof overlay* in the following jurisdictions:
    • Bothell
    • Issaquah
    • Mill Creek
    • Snoqualmie
    • Snohomish County for overlay of more than 10 squares (1 square = 100 square feet)

*Roof overlay is the installation of an additional roof covering over a prepared existing roof covering without removing the existing roof covering. A maximum of 2 roofing layers is allowed.

 

A Single Family Residential Building Re-Roof permit is NOT required for the following:

  • Roof overlays or replacement that are 10 squares or less in Snohomish County
  • Alteration of roof coverings less than 100 sq ft in Issaquah
  • Repair or cleaning existing roofing material

 

A Multifamily Residential, Non-Residential, or Mixed Use Building Re-Roof permit is required for the following:

  • ANY modification to roofing
  • Roof overlay or replacement of more than 10 squares in Snohomish County
