Who can apply?

When do I need a Permit?
Low voltage electrical permits are needed when installing low voltage wiring in existing buildings. In particular, low voltage electrical permits are required when:
- Security systems
- Data and telecommunication cabling
- Media rooms
- Low voltage lighting
Low voltage electrical permits are NOT required in the following cases:
- Telecommunications and data cabling in a single-family dwelling or within one unit of a multifamily residence
- Systems connected to an outlet by a plug
- Installing a new phone
NOTE: In accordance with the adopted Building, Plumbing, Mechanical, and National Electrical Codes, "No building, electrical, mechanical, or plumbing system may be installed, erected, constructed, enlarged, altered, repaired, replaced, moved, improved, removed, converted, or demolished unless a permit has been obtained."

How do I request a refund?
To request a refund of fees associated with a permit issued through MyBuildingPermit.com, complete you will need to fill out an online form. The refund will be calculated and processed in accordance with the applicable city code(s). Once authorized, the refund will be processed and a check mailed to the payee.
